Broad Lighting:  main light illuminates the side of the face turned toward the camera. This de-emphasizes facial features, and makes the face look a little wider.

 

 

Short Lighting:  main light illuminates the side of the face away from the camera. This emphasizes facial contours and has a narrowing effect.

Rembrandt Lighting: your main light is at a 45 degree angle above and to the side of your subject. It creates a triangle of light on the unlit side of your subject's face

Butterfly Lighting: main light is directly above and in front of subject. Creates a shadow under the nose in a butterfly shape
